Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
