2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a clearer vision.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a revised focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Hires
The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full content from the president's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to keep seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
David
